Is the Capture Utility broken? I remember there were problems with it. All I get is a black empty frame.

David:

This seems to be a Win 7 64 bit problem which is also specific to a particular video card. To date I have bought 3 Win 7 64 bit computers and GCP-CAP works fine on all of them. I am trying to create a list of the video cards that it doesn't work with so I can see if I can get one of them and find out what is going on. The video cards that I have it working with are a Nvida GeForce GT530 and an ATI Mobility Radon HD 4670.

If the problem is true to form, you probably get the black image only if you attempt to save a partial screen image with the capture frame. However, if you try a full screen shot, it saves OK. Can you try this and confirm. Also, what is the make and model of your video card?

Update: A customer just reported he has the problem using a NVIDIA GeForce GT 620 with 2 gig memory running Win7/64/Std .

If you are having this problem with GCP-Cap under Win 7/64, please tell us which make and model video card you are running.

Jim,

I reported this to you a few months back. I think it was a Win-7 update that caused it to stop working, but my video is an AMD FirePro V4900 (ATI FireGL).

I reported this problem several months ago when I switched to a Win7 64 bit machine. My video card is ATI Radeon HD 5570.
Problem has not been not resolved but in the meantime the Windows 'Snipping Tool' provides a very good alternative.

Thank you John. Please tell me if you can perform a full screen capture with GCP-Cap. I realize a partial capture results in a black screen but will it take a full screen image?

Jim, my 2 cents :
1. ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 on XP 32bit - Frame works, screen works.

2. ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 on WIN7home 64bit
3. Nvidia Geforce 9300M GS on WIN7pro 32bit
On both these 2&3 - Frame is all black, screen works.

Is this not a win7 problem ?

Bjorn

yes it is but I just purchased a Radon 5570 to test here with. I have to get it to happen here in order to see if it can be fixed here.

I went to use the capture program on my laptop and it did what others are finding in windows 7. A black JPG.

HP pavilion dv7
Windows 7 64bit
Intel HD Graphics (Family)3000 (I think)

It does a full screen shot OK if minumized with Ctrl D but if you maximize and Ctrl D I get...

Run-time error '384':
"A form can't be moved or sized while minimized or maximized"

Clicking OK closes program

I hope there is a fix......

As usual Thanks Jim!

Hello all,
Ver. 11 looks like a winner, if not addressed in Ver. 11 could you make the bottom menu bar larger so that the text size is easier to read?. Thanks for adding the polyline profile tool.
Respectfully,

Hi Matt,
I have it set to max. (10). Back this summer there was some discussion on this and at that time none of the usual switches noticible changed it. I can change it through windows but that makes undesirable changes to other programs.

I remember talking with you about it. I'll see what I can do at this end. Did you try all the fonts? Some don't size but others will get bigger. Did you try courier?

Hi Matt,
Yes I use courier now but it still needs to be bigger when trying to read across a drafting table at about 3'.
Keep up the good work,
Jim Vianna

Jim, when we make the prompt line bigger the draw area is reduced in size. What size monitor are you using and what is the resolution of that monitor?

21" monitor at 1920 x 1080 resolution, landscape orientation.

There is plenty of unused room in the prompt bar (left - right)for things to be bigger without reducing the drawing window. I would guess making the font bigger by a factor of 2 would suffice. I should add that it is only the font size that needs to be increased not the bar height

James,
Is there room vertically for a bigger font? I have the same resolution on my monitor. The Font fills the size of the prompt area vertically. It has room left and right but we can't make the font bigger without it clipping at the top an bottom.

Can you send a screenshot of the prompt area?

Thanks,
Matt

James - I'll have something interesting to show later today. Made some progress in the prompt bars last night.

I sure do like the videos. It makes these things alot clearer, easier to understand and complete when you go through these. Thank you very much.
